Now, we are all crazy about chrome, but theres one main thing I won’t like about chrome until its implemented, and thats extensions. Speaking of which….
Firefox extension: Ubiquity. Its an extension that is like launchy for firefox, so that commands can be typed with a few letters instead of clicks or searching. Check out some of the commands on their site, Ubiquitous Interfaces
After returning from a quick trip to Alaska…
Presenting…NimbleX, a portable linux system thats a 200 mb live cd that has…550 packages and a quick boot time. Installation is really quick and easy although it comes with VirtualBox so you can run another OS ontop of it out of the box. Of course…you can customize your own live CD on their site, which is… NimbleX
Check it out and let us know how you like it.
Oh, and once I get settled in, I’ll post a small collection of photos from Alaska 😛
This is a widget available as a Yahoo Widget or Vista Sidebar gadget, and it is a nice militaristic looking radar screen. With your settings, it scans for wifi networks. Interestingly enough, it plots the physical location of nearby access points. Very cool. It also gives you statistical data about the point. Its pretty much eyecandy, along with the ease of choosing access points to connect to on an actual physical plot.
Check it out: Xirrus.
Seems like we’re just loading you up with software these days 😛
DropUpLoad is this nifty tool for people who have ftp space, and let other people use them.
You can setup a password/login, package it, and give it to someone. That someone doesn’t need to know your login details or anything, they just press a connect button, and click/drag items into the box. Its a no-frills uploader. Whats nice is that its quick and easy to use. Check it out: DropUpLoad
We posted a while back of a utility that could do this, but this is a more polished and better looking version. It does help that the instructions are in english 😉
It’s 600kb, works on 32 bit windows, no 64 bit .
You can now group similar items, settings are stored in a file, making it portable.

Here is a cool program like Super that we posted about a very long time ago. While Super is still our favorite converter, it doesn’t do images or some other functions. It’s user interface is also a bit…odd. FormatFactory won’t convert *as* many formats as Super, it can handle images, rip DVDs into video files, and is a bit more easy on the eye. Check it out: FormatFactory
Simple to explain: Soundsnap provides what are essentially high quality “clip-art” for sounds. A lot are made by sound professions, but you can upload your own too. Their nicely categorized, searchable, and easy to use.

Presenting…Partition Find and Mount. I hope you can understand what this piece of software does. It lets you find and mount lost partitions, marking them as read only so they won’t be corrupted. It won’t solve severe hardware damage, but for most problems of corruption, this tool should work. And heck, its free. Give it a shot: Partition Find and Mount
Do you have some extra harddrives that are too small to be used, but you just hate to throw them away?
I have a few that have sizes measured in single digits…
Of course, you can always turn them into a grinder and sander 😉
You need some hardware skills, some sandpaper and glue, but its not too hard.
Check out the video from hacknmod
Its the nice GUI to SMART disk reporting, temperature, and stats on your harddrive. It’ll even say if your harddrive is in good condition (Blue) or bad….very baaad.
Its free and for windows. Its a nice little reference when you’ve had a computer for a few years, and have lots of files you need. It’ll tell you just how many errors your hdd has had, how long its run, etc.
